A new study titled ‘A comprehensive survey on digital twin for future networks and emerging Internet of Things industry’ has researched the
impact of several digital twins projects and their impact across industries. The academic study found a need to establish unified frameworks across digital twin implementation for interoperability so that various sectors can benefit from them.
The study examined digital twins’ various frameworks and prototypes, standardization, use cases of twins, and future trends. Across the board, the survey found that interoperability is the key issue holding back digital twins, with greater research needed for current digital architectures.
Although the results of this study are not new for the industry, digital twin providers are working toward greater interoperability. The study eloquently highlights the key challenge of twins’ interoperability holding the sector back, shedding light on why and how this is an issue across case studies that have implemented digital twins.
In the future, digital twins must be fully interoperable to ensure that suitable industries can use them to save costs and time. For more information on the use cases of digital twins, check out our intelligence platform.
