GalaxEye Space — a startup founded by former members of the Avishkar Hyperloop team — plans to launch its first multi-sensor satellite in 2024. With a goal of creating a digital twin of Earth by combining data from multiple sensors on its satellites, the company aims to tackle global challenges like climate change, food insecurity and geopolitical conflicts by continuously monitoring the planet from space.
According to GalaxEye, the world is lagging behind in addressing these challenges.
The company says satellite imagery often falls short due to intermittent availability caused by cloud cover, and that satellite imagery is generally intermittent, sometimes available, sometimes not, which prevents persistent monitoring through space.
GalaxEye’s solution is to host multiple sensors, including multispectral, hyperspectral, synthetic aperture radar, and thermal, on the same satellite. GalaxEye claimed this as the world’s first multi-sensor satellite set to launch next year. By fusing data from these sensors, GalaxEye aims to provide consistent and comprehensive imagery, overcoming the limitations of cloud cover.
With its innovative approach to satellite imagery and the backing of India’s space industry, GalaxEye is poised to play a crucial role in creating a digital twin of Earth, enabling better monitoring, preparedness and resilience against global risks.
