The TransiT Hub has confirmed £46 million worth of funding from the United Kingdom government and other partners to build digital twins to decarbonize UK transport. The firm has partnered with around 70 firms to secure the financing, including Glasgow and Edinburgh University.
TransiT Hub has also secured funding from the UKRI Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The initiative comes as UK Transport looks to improve the efficiency of its operations and enhance sustainability by reducing carbon emissions. TransiT will build digital twins to map the transport sector and monitor, inform, and assess the impact of policy and other factors on the industry.
ESRI has invested £20 million into the project, the first for the UK transport industry in digital twin investment – seeing the potential of digital twins in improving the operational efficiency of transport networks:
